Class 4 2017 - 2018

Mrs Chapman

Mrs Yates

Mrs Freeman

Mrs Sizemore

We've had a lovely start to our Autumn term and have already looked at our new topic which is understanding latitude, longitude, Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the equator and the Greenwich meridian. We will be finding out how they help us to navigate, how the coordinates of a country determine its climate and learning about time zones.

Later in the term we will move on to the Vikings and I am currently researching a trip, more information to follow.

Our first topic in Literacy fits really well with our geography theme, as Lynne Cherry's books have a very strong ecological message and are often set in very different parts of the world, like the tropical rainforests. In art we will take inspiration from the works of Henri Rousseau and aim to create our own textural jungle scenes.

Reading Challenge:

The reading challenge is underway, the children have their reading records and are very excited about making an impression on the chart.

Our DT will link to the vikings later in the term as we will be designing and making pouches or purses which the vikings may have used. It might be helpful if you keep an eye out for any useful materials between now and then. Leather would be good, as long as it is thin enough to sew with ease, faux leather or suede, or a woven woollen fabric.
