It is lovely to be back to a more normal routine in school. The children are really enjoying their freedom to play with other groups and in all areas of the school grounds.

Here is a brief run through of what we will be doing this half term.

Activities and Class Topics

In Literacy we will be reading and studying the book "The Boy at the Back of the Class" by Onjali Q. Rauf. This is a wonderful story about a 9 year old boy who is a refugee. I think the children will enjoy it and it may help them make sense of current events in the news.

We will be bringing home our reading records soon and making a start on our Reading Challenge (more to follow).

In maths we will be continuing to work from the new mathematics curriculum and covering a wide range of subjects. Mrs. Yates will take maths on Thursday mornings and will cover shape, space, measurement and time and Mrs. Chapman will focus on the number and calculation.

Currently we are looking at the wildlife areas in and around school and learning about British wildlife. This will lead into our topic where we find out about all living things and learn to classify animals.

Our main topic for this half term will be the Victorians and we have a trip booked to visit Quarry Bank Mill before half term.

Much more information will follow in the Class Letter and you can find out first hand at the "Meet the Teacher " evening on 20th September.

Water We encourage the children to drink water during the day and it is more important than ever that they have a water bottle in school during this term.  Please ensure your child’s bottle is labelled and please encourage them to bring the bottle home daily for washing!

Sun hats and cream We would recommend that children apply sun cream and find a sun hat before coming to school on days which are forecast to be sunny.

We hope this information is helpful but do feel free to share any concerns or worries you may have regarding your child. You can email me on the address below.

Kind regards

Jacky Chapman and Michele Yates
