Coronavirus / COVID-9 Updates

This evening, the Prime Minister has announced that schools will close indefinitely by Friday 20th March. There will be some different arrangements for the children of key workers (to be defined ASAP and including teachers and school staff) and also pupils who may be more vulnerable such as those with social workers and Education and Health Care Plans.

Routine OFSTED inspections have been suspended, and exams will not take place this summer, including SATs.

A national voucher scheme will be launched for pupils who are entitled to a free school meal.

Obviously the detail of these proposals are yet to be confirmed but we expect this to be done quickly as the time scale to put arrangements in place for both schools and parents is very tight. We will keep you updated as soon as we have further details.

In the meantime, the guidance below regarding self-isolation and social distancing still stands.

Parents are advised to read the government's guidance on staying at home in the case of suspected coronavirus infection. This is based on the most significant symptoms of:

  • new continuous cough, and/or
  • high temperature (37.8°C)

If children, or anyone in your household develop either of these symptoms, everyone should be kept at home for a period of 14 days from the onset of the symptoms. In recent days there has been further guidance on social distancing for those with underlying health issues

If your child has any worries about how coronavirus might impact on their life, there are some excellent video clips on Newsround here and in the resources below and attached to this page.
