Learning outside the classroom - Summer term - wk 20/4/20

Phonics – Carry out at least 2 Education City activities per day (these will reinforce the sounds that we have already learnt).

Monday – ‘ur’ sound.  Practice writing the sound and create a list of words containing ‘ur’.

Tuesday – write a sentence containing one of these words.  Please complete this work as independently as possible.

Wednesday – ‘ear’ sound.  Practice writing the sound and create a list of words containing ‘ear’.

Thursday – write a sentence containing one of these words.  Remember to include a capital letter, full stop and finger spaces.

Friday – practice handwriting your single letters and digraphs.

Maths – carry out at least 2 Education City activities per day.

We are going to be using white rose maths where there are activities available which give you a task to carry out each day, see attached letter (Maths provision - Summer term) on how to access this.

Time – I will also upload a video on how to tell the time to the o’clock and send an activity for the children to complete.

P.E. – our PE for this half term should be throwing and catching.  Firstly, using a large ball (about football size): think carefully about how to hold our hands in order to catch the ball; keeping our hands down but our eyes on the ball; throw to head height to start with then begin to go slightly higher – can you clap before you catch the ball?  How many claps can you do?

Obviously the important thing is for the children to be active, so remember to try to get out (if the weather permits) and carry out some exercise.

George’s Marvellous Medicine

Task 1 – make a list of all the characters within the story (don’t worry, there aren’t many!)

Task 2 (this task can be done over 2 days) – consider the two main characters – George and Grandma – and use adjectives to describe them.  The adjective (describing word) could be about what the character looks like e.g. old, young etc; or about their characteristics e.g. kind, mean etc.  There is a sheet attached which has a picture of George and Grandma on.  If possible print this out twice and use one sheet for adjectives describing George and the other sheet for adjectives describing Grandma.

Task 3 – to complete one of the science experiments on roalddahl.com based on experiments from the book ‘George’s Marvellous Experiments.’  There is ‘How to Pop a Balloon’, ‘How to Make a Volcano’ and ‘How to Make a Lava Lamp’.
