Work for W/C 08.06.2020

Hi everyone,

I hope that you enjoyed the video that I uploaded to the reading blog last week.

This week is Puffin Book's Festival of Big Dreams, where authors and illustrators are hosting a number of live sessions on Youtube. A timetable for the festival can be found in the pack that I've attached, along with lots of fun activities for you to do throughout the week; some support the sessions that are taking place over the course of the week so have a look through the pack first thing on Monday morning. The festival is your literacy learning for the week, so enjoy it and make the most of the fantastic opportunity that you have to learn from authors and join in with illustrator draw alongs.

Your maths worksheets are attached. Please be aware that both year groups are following an alternative plan to the videos on White Rose's Home Learning screens. All details can be found in the attached file; Year 1 - your plan changes on Wednesday, and Year 2 your learning videos for the whole week are to be found in the PDF named Y2 Week 7 Alternative plan.

This week's wider learning activities are:

  1. Learn about Rosa Parks. I would like the children to watch the videoes and complete the activities from the BBC Daily website about Rosa Parks and her activism with a parent. The link to the webpage is https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zjkj382/articles/zkhknrd
  2. How many shapes can you make from 4 triangles? The instructions for this task are on https://nrich.maths.org/141. This is a fun activity that allows you to be really creative so enjoy it.
  3. Can you find the hidden message in the code breaker attachment that is in homework section of the website (you'll have to log in to access it)? Once you'veworked out what the hidden message is, can you create you own code and message for your family and friends to try and solve. Upload it on the blog so other people in our class can try and crack it.
  4. Change the colour of milk. This is a fun and simple experiment that will amaze you. You will make unique patterns, have fun and learn about the soap makes the milk move. Instructions on how to conduct this experiment and a supporting video can be found at: https://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments/milk-color-explosion/
